Description

The Wand Box and Spheres I created this image to use inside of one of my Amanda Ackers Adventure Novels. The box was created from two separate cubes. The box was unwrapped and an image of wood was used as the texture. The latch on the box is two separate pieces. One for the lid, one for the box. I used the Node Editor and three images of rust to create the final rust texture. A cylinder, scaled and placed created the part the lock slips through. You cannot see it in this image, however, the screws on the latch plates, actually have slots in them. I used a UV Sphere which I cut in half, then created a cube and scaled it down to a rather flat thing that looked like a flat board. I sunk the edge of the cube into the sphere, then asked for the difference between the two. When I moved the cube away, the sphere had a perfect slot . I then placed several copies of what now looks like a screw head, then rotated each slightly for a more realistic look, and finished with a simple texture. The Lock: The lower portion of the lock is a cube scaled to look like, well, a lock :) I created the key using a torus for the handle, a cylinder for the barrel, and an altered cube for the front. Taking the key, I sunk it into the lower part of the lock, and asked for the difference between the two. Removing the key left the exact dimensions of the key as in indentation. The upper portion of the lock was created by using a torus which I cut in half, then extended the cut portions along the “Z” axis. It was textured, slipped into the hole within the lower portion of the lock, then the two rotated and pressed through the catch. The wand was created from a cylinder, unwrapped and a wooden texture applied. The three “Seeing Spheres” (in the novel) are UV Spheres, set to “Glass” with a Refractive Index of 1.33 The table is a plane with an image. The background is a plane with an image I created using a Flame Fractal, adding water in Photoshop before bringing into Blender. I used the “Ivy” add-on in Blender, then removed the leaves to get the old dried vines against the box. For those of you who have downloaded my FREE Amanda Ackers fantasy novel series on smashwords.com (glennandsasha gabriel), you know how Thian is always looking for a new wand. When Amanda and her friends find this ancient box deep within some mysterious caverns, only Thian is able to open the box. When he lifts the wand, there is a bright blue flash. Things are going to get very interesting :) Hope you enjoy.
