And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments ... and his girdle." *** I know this is really going to offend some people...well, too bad - and being as my last image (into which I put a great deal of effort) didn't seem to go over too well, I thought I'd try stirring up a few snakes ;) This is a bit of a departure for me, depicting gay male lovers - but it's based on some educated conjecture on the part of scholars and historians who tell us that (1) homosexuality and bisexuality were pretty much taken for granted in much of the ancient world, and (2) a man in that particular culture at that time (c. 1000 BCE) who gave another man such gifts - particularly weapons like swords and bows - did not do that lightly. Such gifts indicate a very deep intimacy that goes way beyond friendship. Anyway, later on, David says "...very pleasant have you been unto me: your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women" (II Samuel 1:26). Well...make of it what you will. (And BTW, I am not a follower of any organized religion - my karma ran over my dogma a long time ago.)
