After my first breakup, I purposefully stayed away from the possibility of a new relationship for a long time, observing others and waiting for something to happen. Everyone seems to come to me with their problems even though I've only ever had one relationship, and I seem to know how things are going to work out before they happen. Still though, maybe I'm just avoiding getting hurt again, and this poem was inspired by that thought. It's not entirely personal, but it's based around that idea. Assured the ascent is worth the fall I know your path-- how the line weaves and intersects those around you And I dread the future, avoiding the day I allow myself the pleasure of freedom, the curse of thinking. Because I know on that day, when I look down on the world and observe everyone's lives The only home I can't see is my own.
