Uh - I remember when those pumps were NEW...gas was closer to .60 or .70c a gallon (late 1970s). The old rusted pumps I remember from those days were stately, Art-Deco-influenced pieces of equipment, left from a day when service station attendants wore crisp, white coveralls and could actually support themselves on such employment...long before my time. Makes me think of Ozymandias...
