Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

This is a super portrait pic Andrea, it would probably look good in B&W too.

Well I like them both! I can't decide, but maybe the B+W slightly gets the nod from me. Good on him for cleaning the beach. I can't understand people dumping their rubbish on a beach.

I had no idea George Bernard Shaw was still with us. This is a fabulous portrait full of character and gravitas.

OH That is a pretty handsome gentleman. No wonder you wanted to make super portrait of him, which you did :)

Beautiful portrait with lots of character. Very well done!

Magnificent clarity, POV, lighting and texture reveal a portrait of biblical proportions, Andrea. Actually, in that vein, this could be John the Baptist. One of your best, if not the best, of your man-on-the-street series.

An excellent photo, both versions, and I would bet that he was in the front lines during WW II. There are not that many still standing. God bless him!

WOW! This is amazing! I love these human studies you do. It's a lot harder to get such shots in Chicago, but then, I don't try as often as I might and I suspect that has something to do with it. Chicagoans sometimes have an aura of photo-resistance to them and it gets quite annoying at times. This, on the other hand, inspires me to try such shots, especially if I come across a person with actual character (harder to do in Chicago than one might think.) I love this contemplative expression and the details are amazing, I'd count his hairs if I had the time...it's that clear. I love this shot and I wish I knew a few Viking reenactors, though I do know a couple of Vikings, one of whom is affectionately known as the Vegetarian Viking. Hmmm...maybe I'll just have to go to Norway and get a photo of him, since all of my photos of him in the Czech Republic are on my laptop in the Czech Republic. Hmmm...there's an idea! Tourists/holiday travelers are such interesting creatures who fulfill a distinct ecological niche. They maintain such a delicate balance of trash circulation!

Fantastic Andrea! I do prefer the B&W version mostly because I might have taken out some of the red in his nose and some of the tobacco stains in his beard, but that is reality after all, so both images are excellent! I would enjoy a conversation with this fellow!
MrsRatbag
Wonderful character in his face and beard; I can easily imagine him viking all around!
kaward
TOP CLASS!! A character and face full of stories I bet!
auntietk
I like both versions of course, because the basic portrait is SO good! This was worth the wait.

I don't think I'd remove anything (as per the whaleman), that would take away from the person. Sanitizing isn't always the best thing, grins. I loved the black and white version, it is SO dramatic, yet the more I look at this one .. the harder it is to say which is better.

Excellent!!!
