Description

Work ended—as usual on a Sunday—within an hour of my delayed weekend of photography, art, writing, and various creative and idle activities with Corey. Two weeks ago, if I remember correctly, I strolled through an alley, intent on taking a shortcut from Point A to Point A.5, which leads, invariably (though circuitously) to Point B. During my stroll, I noticed pigeons and cryptic city-drops of dubious, near organic pedigree. An old shoe lay flattened near a garbage bin stuffed with plastic, and as I approached a near-familiar wall, I noticed a slight difference. An addition. A declaration. I paused in my near-hurried strides and reached for the camera I am scarcely ever without. I snapped a photo, and laughed at the idea of Pinocchio having aged sufficiently to become an art student at Chicago’s Columbia College. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Columbia College student (or student collective) is responsible for the image I’ve captured here. I took this photo simply because I liked the incongruity of Pinocchio on the rather dubious back wall of an establishment dedicated to the more cryptic aspects of the hospitality industry. And so, with this image, I’m able to say—without doubt—that Pinocchio is an artist and that it’s terribly important for a particular cricket to know of that fact. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week/end.

It's not a bad drawing, who ever did it has some bit of talent. However, what makes me curious is the why of it. Why did someone feel the need to sit in some back alley and draw that. The story has to be interesting.

Treasureprints took the words out of my mouth! Why go to all that trouble and then get the name wrong!!!!!!

I suppose Pinocchio must nose that he's lying - again. I love circular logic it makes me dizzy. This reminds me of a scene from the game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It's not too big a stretch to envision this to be the rear entrance to 'The Asp Hole' in Hollywood. It's in this graffiti cluttered alley space that the 'hero' of the game is suddenly attacked by a torch wielding vampire hunter shouting politely, "Hey! Don't move!". Indeed, graffiti artists blissfully continue to work with their spray paint while this medieval mayhem erupts around them. All great fun.

Of course he's a real artist. He's been in show business for 75 years. I imagine this is a play on 'I'm a real boy." Nice image. You do find the most interesting things.

That's a fantastic find! Not only the name is wrong but the mixed capitals and lower case always make me cringe a bit, but maybe that's why I am not an artist of the drawing type, LOL!

HA! That is a wonderful find and shot, but usually Pinocchio gets a long nose if he is lying, so I am not sure we should trust. he actually IS a real Artist, unless he painted that himself :) Love this shot :)

A real Chip-type find, for sure! Well captured, and I'll be you're still trying to wrap your mind around the circumstances of its existence!

oh but there HAS to be a story here! but will you ever find it? and if you do, of course you'll share it, right? what a wildly wonderful find this is. but why is it buried in a back alley where no one (except you) will ever see it? just one of a thousand questions that pop in my head while looking at this. but wait, it is being seen by many people, isn't it?

A multi-colored stencil requires work and skill. The clean processing of the template suggests that the artist has experience with it. Pinocchio is a loveable guy and we know his talent. Therefore, it seems to me the place where the stencil is, well chosen by the artist. Funny work and well discovered!!
