Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Nice TZ3 pic of the plantain on the plantation. Added note: Plantains are related to the banana.

I love the way that this makes me think of something prehistoric. The sort of plant I'd zoom in to take a photo of, before a duck-billed dinosaur (parasolophorous or something) goes mincing by, making those hooting dinosaur noises they were probably known to make, since their head-crests were resonance chambers. I love the way in which this image evokes that, but it's a brilliant image all on its own, without hooting, bird-hipped dinosaurs mincing into the shot on tiptoe, with their counterbalancing tails stretched back at that odd, ground-parallel angle. Great color and a wonderful sense of mood and openness. This is a beautifully fresh image.

I've seen these before. They always looked as if they were wearing Elizabethan collars. The only plantain I know is variety of banana. Wonderful clear shot.

We have the same, or something similar, sort of thing here. They grow wild in this climate. Ours have sturdy, sort of ribbed or square-ish stems.

See? why are they considered weeds? they're beautiful! We have them here, too, probably brought over by the English way back in the 16 or 17 hundreds, grins!

Even the lowly plantain looks good in closeup.
