Description

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. Captured 5/11/12, mid afternoon, at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Wetlands, in beautiful Huntington Beach, California. Some enterprising individual, possibly a beachcomber, decided to settle down in the wetlands for a little peace and quiet. Looks like the structure has been around for quite a while. I'm just wondering how far the builder had to tote those fronds because any palm trees in the area are some distance away. Anyway, the resident was no where to be seen. May have been inside though. Toodles, and have a nice day.

I'm surprised that it has been allowed to stay; perhaps the tenant was "evicted" and the evictors didn't feel like dismantling this naturally-sourced structure. At any rate, really excellent shots of this shack; when it comes time for me to retire I'll have to look it up, as it's probably about the only thing in my price range!

Jock said what I was thinking... pretty creative, I don't think anyone should be made to move if they can create something and they are not hurting anyone else. Nice work

No Palm Trees nearby? Could it have been built by aliens? Nice find. I wonder if this domicile has a real postal address? Seriously the view of the wetlands must be spectacular . Good Job here! :-)

lol, denise...if she lived in places like Chicago or New York, this shack would definitely cost big bucks... Of the many images I'd love to comment on as 'representative' of your range, I picked this for a few reasons. 1) The subject itself, showing your predilection for sights most of us never find or see---even if they're right in front of our eyes. 2) For the fascination of the dual views, where "front and back" seem like two different locales, and yet they also seem almost identical. And 3) (and most important from the standpoint of camera-work), the tonal qualities, its contrasts and textures, lines, shadow, etc. Full Size, the textural contrasts are very sensual and sinewy. The light and shadow make them appear like a huge mane. The detail is very complex. And then, it's all against the moonscape of these wetlands, which you've captured in numerous moods and otherworldly tones throughout your gallery. I can believe people live here, as being homeless or squatting in a big city can be brutal: At least in a thatched 'hut' like this, they'd have remove from onlookers in the city. But, as Jocko joked, I wouldn't want to hang out with some of the creatures here. Spider heaven indeed. A fascinating and highly textured shot, and yet another capture of the unique and unusual which you give us with aplomb and acute eye again and again.
