Description
Captured 6/3/13, mid morning, about half a mile from my sentient digs.
I found these specimens interesting, because the petals remind me of romaine lettuce leaves.
A ZOOM would be nice.
And, today is rather significant, it being my son's (rcolt33) happy birthday, and the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Midway, 71 years ago. I remember it well.
Sayonara, and have a nice day.

well I second the happy birthday to your son, may he have many more! And re the Battle of Midway, if you were there, many bows to you as well; bows for any of those battles you were in: What I've studied of it, it was one of several overwhelming campaigns which ultimately helped save the world. Which makes these bold yellow and red-dappled flowers a touching, glowing memorial. What strikes me about this capture isn't only the romaine lettuce-appearance of the leaves, but how the petals look almost antiqued. Can't put my finger on it, but you captured a wonderful combination of sheen and crinkle. Like they were made of silk or (almost) taffeta. Fine detail in light and texture. Also, more sensitive work with light and shadow---some of the light seems to come to us via backlight too. And another thing that hits me in your flower shots is "grouping": I have tried and tried to get good grouping with flower shots, but have yet to achieve it; so I always appreciate how well you do it. (By 'grouping' I mean how you capture objects as a whole, as a 'group'. It's not a technical term, just my own.) Andrea's "Flowers in the House" series is a perfect example of grouping: But, in her case, she sets-up the shots, organizes them 'for' the shots, etc. They're still lifes. But in your flower groupings, you create the shot from what's already there, which means it's a matter of knowing where to place the camera, how close, what settings to use, etc. That's one of several things I find so difficult about flower shooting, and one of the elements I've always admired in your flower shots. Drawing has always allowed me to arrange the flower(s) in any manner I wish; but photographing means I have to work 'with' the flowers, as they're not moving according to my needs. So...kudos to the composition, the grouping, including the play of light and dark, etc. Fine choices, and a beautiful shot.
