Description

I’ve taken more photos of crinkled plastic wrap than I care to admit. I convinced myself that I’d refrain from posting all of those images. And I won’t. Some of them are blurry, after all…others are repetitions, and there’s really no need to post non-variable variants of something, and so many of those shots will not make it into my gallery. A few more will, however, since the plastic wrap in question seems to exhibit living qualities. It evolves. It changes. It hasn’t grown, reproduced, or eaten anything yet, but I’m not entirely convinced that it hasn’t excreted something. This—of course—implies that it must have eaten something, though the excreta remains cryptic at best. It’s possible that it isn’t the result of plastic metabolism at all. Maybe red spider mites are responsible, though I somehow doubt that. Though I’ve promised to hold back on posting shot after shot of moisture-beaded plastic wrap, there are a few doozies waiting to see the light of digital day, and I’m curious about what I’m likely to see, tomorrow, at break time. I’m sure to take another photograph or two, but until then, I’m posting this one. It seems to have more to do with moisture than with plastic, but the plastic is there, as are some surprising splashes of color. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Very cool capture and presentation...though I have to admit that this one screams out to be modifiled through some photo-editing program. Do I have your permission to try?

Wow, very amazing drops on the plastic - and well done for noticing & capturing its fractal beauty. I think its "living" nature comes from the dynamic link the droplets have to the atmospheric moisture and the interaction with changing humidity and temperatures over time. - still a cute and cryptic ethereal & material manifestation!

In the thumbnail I thought of spider webs or at my first. drilling tests on iron plates. When looking closer, I see a wonderful structure. Abstract art created by nature. OUTSTANDING close up!!!

What I like about these is the completely unique pattern of droplet sizes splayed over the surface; it makes me wonder about the physics behind the timing of the sizes. Excellent capture of this array, Chip!

Organic? Perhaps. But dominating the left top half I can clearly see a rather morose looking spirit. Perhaps it is a cousin to my ghost of Earl Grey. A very successful experiment with light, shapes and textures.

Making the most of what you have at hand. It is like a project that an evil photography instructor will force onto a class to make them see hidden worlds right in front of them. I think of works like this whenever I feel sorry for myself being stuck in my boring city and not being in London, or Turkey or Paris. My travel photo instructor told us one of her assigements for her advanced class was for the students to lock themselves in their bathrooms and not come out till they had taken 100 photos. Another stakes his students to a 10 foot teather in an open field and that is were they must get a similar number of shots in one evenings worth of work.
