Description
Venice. The Frari’s Basilica. The Chapel of St. Mark or Corner Chapel. Monument dedicated to Federico Corner.
In the elegant marble aedicule stands a radiant angel of Donatello influence holding a large scroll with the inscription of the eulogy of the illustrious Venetian, who saved his state from Genoese who had advanced as far as Chioggia (1378-1381), offering his wealth and valour to the Serenissima. This work of divine beauty is one of the best examples of Renaissance art in Venice. Around the sculpture there is a monochromatic fresco with classic features, attributed to Andrea Mantegna.
