Description

Top shot captured 6/4/13, early AM, next to railroad tracks; bottom pic captured 6/6/13, in front of industrial offices. The mate to the top shoe was nowhere to be found. A ZOOM would be ideal. Eventually, I will have to post photos of the mass of discarded clothing that I run across. Totziens, and have a nice day.

Likely the lack of a mate is why the top one was discarded! I have the slip-on version of that shoe (in pink and black), but I do have BOTH of them! Can't explain the bottom pair, they look to have a lot of life in them, perhaps someone was intoxicated and forgot they were there? Great documentation of the profligacies of humans and their footwear, Harry!

ok, now this was a fav for me because, in addition to being a concentrated portrait of something most of us would walk away from, you have a coordination in each shot that just knocked me out. In number 1: In addition to (a list) the wonderful worn grays, that terrific checkerboard "facings" (the part that leads to the shoelaces and ringlets) (it's all called the "quarters" since it goes through the center of the shoe), the wonderful worn-insole, and that contrasting white rim (above the sole of the shoe, and which is coming off on the side!), you've got it coordinated with the background: I mean you couldn't have done better if you'd painted it yourself. The grays and blacks and dabs of beige and brown were custom-made for this shoe! And yet the grainy texture---very well captured---is perfect foil to the cloth of the shoe. (The gray canvas is wonderfully smooth and ugly.) It's a work of art, finely harmonic; and you composed the shot with the shoe perfectly balanced on a diagonal, with equal space top and bottom. Symphonic seeing, fine coordination. The second---man, is your eye alive: the grays of the sandals are picked up by numerous grays behind it, and contrasted by the much lighter grays in front. The blueish-grays of the upper bands (of the sandals) are picked up by various blues behind it---including a wrapper. And that red---ie, in the flags of the sandals? Picked up by the red of the cup behind it. Fine eye! And the lines of the sandals join the area in back of them with the area in front. (Fine composition.) Also, the sandals are almost inviting, even while they're decaying...Really, this is a pair of terrific-seen, composed images, with a real eye for harmony between subject and its surroundings. Probably didn't expect to see so much written about decayed footwear, lol; but this is a terrific pair of shots. Very 'aware', I just don't know how else to say it. Love it.
