I am a self-taught artist working both in the 2D realm of traditional painting(watercolours, acrylics and ink) and the 3D realm of digital painting and CGI(mainly Bryce and Photoshop). My work is primarily SciFi,Fantasy and Landscape,as well as logo design and conceptual art.  I have always been interested in all things SciFi,as a kid growing up in Rushden,Northamptonshire,England I was a huge fan of such shows as The Thunderbirds,Captain Scarlet,Dr.Who and many more.Upon emigrating to Alberta,Canada I was captivated by the beauty of the Rockies and the diversity of wildlife and spent years studying animals and painting realistic wildlife scenes in watercolour. My originals hang in collections worldwide. Now,my attention has switched back to SciFi,and my knowledge of creature anatomy and habits,as well as colour sense and compositional skills now come into play in a whole new realm...3D.  During the day I work in a gallery and frameshop in Kelowna,BC,Canada where I have lived for almost thirty years. As the shop manager and master framer,I am constantly influenced by the art that is both shown in the gallery and framed for clients.  As a member of Renderosity for just over a year,I have come to know many of the artists here, and have been inspired by their works.I have also been fortunate to have works chosen for display on other sites, and to have been featured in articles in two digital magazines, all as a result of the exposure from this site.My goal is to continue, and push my knowledge with each image.Thank you for taking the time to view my gallery!

You’ve crafted a subtle sense of tension into the scene, particularly with the stance of your character. You have an eye finely tuned to natural movement, a skill which must be acquired and honed by much practice and a sharp self-critical eye. Sadly I missed your original post yesterday but your decision offers the opportunity to make a point I think is lost on some – the creative process, the process which makes great art, begins not with the initial flash of inspiration, which is only the raw unformed clay, but rather is embedded in the steps the artist takes to refine the image (or written text, music – any medium in which the artist works). Producing great art requires a process of composed rational self reflection criticism and assessment, and often many re-approaches to a particular problem till the goal is attained. When you view the work of master artists, of really any school, discipline, or philosophy, the substance of the work is often the product of an entire lifetime devoted to attaining the knowledge to execute the techniques and perfection as measured by an uncompromising set values and standards. Art is not just reproduction of the natural world; art is composed from the interaction of the individual mind and the world, filtered through the perceptions, rational thought, convictions, beliefs, values of the artist. Art is communication, and that statement alone is enough to offend the fragile sensibilities of some (which is good, if they do not apprehend that then they should be offended – by their own passivity of consciousness). Life is to be lived with passion and conviction – and this is a value I see in your work, it being one of the reasons I find it of value to comment on your posts. I suppose I do not really understand the culture of other artists who prefer to say nothing, or worse yet, to my mind, speak only in comforting phrases which convey nothing, or most despicable to my perception, those who wish to furtively offer their views than feign resentment hostility and terror (as opposed to the rational option of opening a dialogue) when confronted with an opposing viewpoint – which tells me they have neither the courage of their convictions nor the courage to critically examine those convictions. In any case your posts are always a pleasure.

Excellent work!

This one looks good. At first, I thought the figure in the suit was floating a couple of feet in the air, but ultimately decided it was a trick of the eye. A second, closer look says it is standing firmly on the ground.

I think I like this one the best of the 3 so far. The Lighting and textures just feel better. I like the contrast of the reds in the outfit against the black, grey and white of terrain and sky.

Excellent scope.

Wonderfully balanced composition here. Particularly impressive is the gravel surface under the foreground character. How did you manage that one?????
