Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Outstanding representation of an alternate universe. Somewhat reminiscent of the artwork in 'Yellow Submarine'. A fantastic abstract.

Oh my, the transformation from the original to this painting, is just amazing - I would have never guessed ... I feel very honoured, that you have saved the best for last and for me! let me rephrase this and say it's a first ! ;) THANK YOU so very much Andrea, the only time I have ever used acrylics, is when painting walls in our house and then, one colour only ... This is spectacular, I am a colour freak and find this particularly interesting and wish that I could hang this painting in my little office, upstairs ... I see so many different textures (apart from all the vibrant colours) and even a little bird, that almost has a home in a perfume bottle ? ;) when I am due to visit, I might have to 'borrow' that painting, if you don't mind ? :)) thanks once more - you too have made my day ! BB

I love this! Such bright and wonderful colors, and the composition is just right. I do love abstract art when it's done well, and this is delightful!

This is splendid, you have really created a wonderful painting here with such detail and colour, I love the shading.. clever observation and delicate hand. What I like about Acrylic, it dries fast, can be as thick as oils or as thin as watercolours, only problem with the medium can be if it gets on clothing and dries out, it's almost impossible to get out. Unlike oils you don't have to wait for overlaying. Well done.

Wow! I love this! I love the shapes, composition, colors, textures, and the little green bird-like creature on the right. This is marvelous! Wonderful painting and dedication!

I don't know Brigitte, but from the dedis she's received, she must be a terrific lady and artist, because they reflect real excitement and creativity. You said this was your "first proper acrylic painting"---did you mean in the present, or in your whole life? If it's the latter, it's amazing you haven't done one before, given your highly broad range of expression. If it's your first, you must've fallen in love with the peculiar characteristics of acrylics---ie, it can be thick like oil but thin like watercolors, dries fast and can be layered and painted over, it can be saturated and opaque yet also thin and slightly translucent---but then Mark-David-Rogers said all that above. I loved it when I used it. (I mostly painted in oils, but acrylics offered as ease I never had with oils, and watercolor---well, I found them daunting and very difficult, esp for detail.) The piece: It's a riot of form and color, it has textures that remind us of your digital manipulations, and it reminds me again what a festival you carry inside of you each day. It's a playful 'dance' that you create whenever you draw, paint or transform a photo. You even added a birdie to the original flickr photo (perched on the side of your camera) which fits right in. The camera has been distorted to a sound-speaker or something with a very large mouth. (Lol...an operatic mouth.) The other things: Your sweater (I assume) and the many reflections in the bottle top all have an animal-like feel---as if, with a little imagination, they could come alive. I realized tonight (in viewing this) that you have a strong relationship with animal and human forms, in your art, even in your most abstract work. I've so often found myself "finding" them in your shapes and abstracts. Also, a heavily "vertical" piece, the forms seem to be going 'up' in a kind of layered street dance, an acrylic abstract salsa dance, all of which is livened by your vivid hues. ("Salsa" literally means "sauce," or "big mix," so it's appropriate.) A helluva a good time, an intimate dance among friends. Great to see you paint again---or at least to see it online. I saw the photo-manipulation, btw (the one made of the original photo on flickr), and it's very stark and powerful. This, however, takes it to pure painting and abstraction, replete with grain, wood-bark, and the feeling of life peeling to reveal more life. Terrific! I hope you do more...
