Hi Johnny, Love the Winston Churchill quote, many know it but I wonder how many understand its meaning? “Democratic” in its original meaning [refers to] unlimited majority rule . . . a social system in which one’s work, one’s property, one’s mind, and one’s life are at the mercy of any gang that may muster the vote of a majority at any moment for any purpose. If we discard morality and substitute for it the Collectivist doctrine of unlimited majority rule, if we accept the idea that a majority may do anything it pleases, and that anything done by a majority is right because it’s done by a majority (this being the only standard of right and wrong)—how are men to apply this in practice to their actual lives? Who is the majority? In relation to each particular man, all other men are potential members of that majority which may destroy him at its pleasure at any moment. P.S. I have recently encountered a situation where a Vendor acted to suppress free speech and critical commentary – I pointed out an issue and the Vendor responded publically with an obvious lie. The Vendor then withdrew his statement (probably realizing the obvious nature of his response could not reflect positively on him or the efficacy of his products) however he acted furtively behind the scenes to have my comment suppressed, and succeeded by feigning insult. The result is, I now see the plausibility of your premise, it is possible for Vendors and Merchants (aided by Marketplace functionaries) to act in a tyrannical manner (by suppressing the speech of others) and this incident is evidence that indeed corporations can act in a manner which is morally depraved and disrespectful of individual rights and freedoms. PPS. Don’t let it go to your head Johnny, I’m still unconvinced that (even in this one instance) it represents a general rule. The action represented the corruption and moral depravity of individuals – and as such cannot be construed to besmear entire groups of individuals or systems of commerce.

From the Danish part of Wikipedia translated: "A Norwegian study conducted in the 1950s, could, for example. demonstrate no less than 311 different uses of the word "democracy"." So it speaks for many interpretations but democracy = a totalitarian state?? But a democracy can of course be an obstacle to totally free market enterprise and busines if this is the agenda..But remember a total unregulated market system is not a all the slightest democratic (and sometimes more greedy than smart, as the Crises show lately). and "By democracy means simply that the individual has the greatest influence on his own life and that there are institutions that make it possible for all interests are free to express themselves and be confronted in an equal manner in order to establish a solution . (Hans Åge 1984) Honestly I have big difficulties to see opposite meanings of democracy and republic (when it really is a republic with selected people to govern). And I don't see any contradiction between democracy and freedom. In a decent democracy the majority respect the minorities [actually we all belong to one or more minorities, male in the fifties f.x.] ;o) No two democracies in the world are quite alike but everywhere: The voters elect one (or more) and later they can deselect the same if they don't like him now. That should be freedom, too? But maybe some political elites finds this dreadful? ;o) My greatest concern is the merging of politicians and strong commercial interests as it appears right before our eyes today, take a look around.. Your scene (most excellent by the way) has stirred the pot a bit it seems. Now that is a function of art, well done. In truth of course America is not a Democracy, it is exactly as stated above, a limited Republic nation. But even that is an illusion. We here have become Oz, the emerald city that depends upon those behind the curtain to guide and rule us... For being such an enlightened and educated society, we certain have become dumb and blind. It doesn't take much to lead us down a merry path to what will certainly be our demise.

I was a bit confused, when you said and I read: 'antics' ??? WT??? What you probably meant (I am 100% sure of !) is - 'Antiques' - two totally different meanings, but speaking of the old 'Amiga', (yes, Jeff had also one) that is definitely an old antique !!! and NOT an 'antic'! LOL *** Definition of ANTIC. 1. : an attention-drawing often wildly playful or funny act or action : caper . 2. archaic : a performer of a grotesque or ...
