I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

Really impressive!!
Richardphotos
thanks for posting this. I would be nervous in that open vehicle as it would take nothing for the cat to jump up there, but I still would be taking pictures

I hear you Richard! The animals are fairly used to the vehicles, hence the fact that they can get so close. As long as you remain seated and make no sudden movements, they see the vehicle and occupants as one unit and the chances of them attacking is quite slim - especially the cats. Elephants, Rhino and Buffalo could be a different story. You do sign a serious waiver though before they take you out!

An impressive photo. I would not have a good feeling in this situation, but sometimes you have to risk something for a good shot.

Great shot and so interesting to see the vehicle. It makes sense that the cat sees the size of the vehicle as a whole and leaves it alone. How thrilling to get so close to these beautiful animals.

The cheetas at the zoo intimidated me ... and they were much further away from me than this ... lol. Their gaze is heart stopping.

Very interesting narrative and shot of photographer versus cat in this cool photo, Carin. Does anyone ever cheat with two vehicles at at time when capturing cheetahs? Oh, and Happy Birthday!

I'd go in a heartbeat! Open vehicle means no bars, no glass to interfere with your shots; how wonderful to be so close to the wild creatures!

I'm not sure I would take that risk, there is often a good reason for waivers, LOL!
