Description

This is the brother of the cheetah in my previous two uploads. He was laying about 50 yards from his sibling and was very uninterested in us snapping away - stretched out and sleeping. In the meantime a small herd of zebra was approaching from the east. The moment he smelled them he all of a sudden became very alert. I was lucky enough to catch him looking at his possible prey. We waited there for quite some time in the hope of seeing a kill, but he was either too lazy or not hungry! Thank you for popping in and for your very welcome comments and favs on my last upload "Welcome to the US first family." thumb_2451528.jpghref> Carin xx

Great shot Carin. Cheetah's hunt by way of surprise ambush. They cannot sustain their lightning speed for long. This cheetah has been well and truly spotted by his prey, so it wouldn't be worth him risking serious injury attacking an animal that knows he's coming!

Odd that the cheetah did not take advantage of the opportunity and spring toward the zebra in the intent of a free lunch, Carin. I guess it wasn't hungry.

While I'd love to see a cheetah in action, I'd hate to see a zebra killed, even though I know it's nature and that's their place on the food chain. Wonderful capture!!!

Excellent shot, full of imagination too! I suspect like some other cats he will just wait for the female to do all the work of making the kill, then he will move in to join in the dining experience.

@ Wayne - unlike lions who live in prides, cheetah and leopard usually walk alone and both male and female will hunt! :)

If s/he had been hungry - that was not much of a buffer for the zebras!!
