Description

I couldn't wait to get this one posted, captured 7/1/13, early on an overcast morning, not too far from my haunt. A padlock to end all padlocks, replete with rust and dried paint, not too expertly applied. I like the way it oozed down the lock before it dried. Cool for oddball photographs, but for aesthetic and practical purposes, can't they remove the lock before they paint? Photo not as sharp as I expected, probably because I was excited when I snapped it. And a far cry from yesterday's exquisite Ford F-350 headlight. More enjoyable full size. Cheerio, and have a nice day.

Great photo Harry, and I got a kick out of how they left it on while painting.

"A padlock to end all padlocks" Does this mean this is the last of your fabulous padlock photos? I noticed where there is paint there's no rust. What is this lock securing? Post work very well done.

I'd wonder if it still works. Hopefully not too much of that paint made its way inside. Great capture!

There's a bridge in Paris where one can make a padlock safari. Nice shot

Oh my, the height of painterly laziness! Not only leaving it on, but being so messy with the pain that it's run in big dried drips...if you only knew who did the paint job you could send your photo to their boss as evidence of their incompetence! Still, it does make a fantastic photo subject, and while you say it doesn't measure up sharpness-wise, to me it looks pretty darn good. Well done, Harry!

The master of all padlock photos. Nice find and a pretty good capture as well. I love the sloppy paint and rusty texture. Have a great 4th!

I'm supposed to be doing lots of categories here, but I always get caught in a few---this time another padlock shot. The padlocks of the world bow to you for allowing them to display their many personalities. And someone above spoke of a bridge in Paris...ok, when I get there, I'll check it out! But apparently a neighborhood in LA is enough. I like that you tell us when you wanted a sharper shot, or a closer shot, etc: You're letting us in on the process, and how circumstance may prevent you from getting all you wanted; or, in this case, excitement got the better of you at the moment. That's something many photographers deal with, and it makes your gallery a continuing journey. But I wouldn't worry, the shot speaks boldly. There's that line of paint from top and down the lock: It's amazing how well "preserved" it is, like it was frozen in time. And then it looks like more spray paint (like the last padlock I commented on). I can understand your wanting more sharpness (did you ever go back? I don't remember whether you posted another shot of this), but you got a lot of detail regardless: The spray 'dots' all over the lock-bottom is a fine example, as is the set of cracks in the wall behind, and the pock marks (droplet bulges) in the paint, etc. But also, the wall ledge makes the lock 'suspend' there, on an angle. I consider this more minimalist design, that is, in the number of elements in the shot. More fine eye at work: I've never seen them this way, they just pass me by, I just don't see what you see. And finally it's got lushness. I know some people would say "lushness? an ugly wall, a few cracks, and a badly placed lock?" But yeah, lushness: It's a closeup lush shot. Love it. Big, ugly and beautiful.
