Description

Can't we all just get along? Captured 3/22/13, looking over the fence of a neighbor's patio. I'd been searching for this photo already for months, and accidentally came across it last night. I was experimenting with a new lens on my old Pentax SLR when I heard this creature, apparently well aware of my presence, just barking away in a high intensity manner. So, undeterred, I took advantage of the situation, peered over the fence, and took this pic. The family and its yapper have since moved away, negating any chance for a repeat. Look at the tension in the body, with the ears drawn back, etc., and dig the big black bulging eyes, just furious with hate. Utterly cool via ZOOM. Farvel, and have a nice day.

Great POV looking down on the fearsome canine with the big ego, Harry; clearly you were violating some space issues that the little dog felt strongly about. Excellent capture of all the ferocity it had to pour out at you!

OMG, can't help but notice those long nails... didn't they ever trim them! I guess for some dogs, especially small ones, this is a bit of normal behavior - Little Dog Complex. Our Schnauzer mix can be quite vocal, but I've not seen this look from her, it's more a warning you're on her turf than anything. Great capture though, you really caught all the anxiety this little dog had to display.

A Pentax SLR--that was my first 35mm camera and I loved it!! When I was still working delivering mail, one of these little critters bit me on the calf. I dropped kicked it halfway across the yard out of sheer reaction. My leg was black and blue for weeks and it hurt like heck.

This is an excellent shot Harry! I love the shine/reflections in his eyes and I can almost see the saliva in his gaping hole! Excellent focus. He reminds me a little of how my dachsie greets people she does not know! :)

I'm moving on 2 hours now, and I've barely gotten started! (But I'll be back for more.) I had to do this guy! I love the comments, they react with lots of detail; and a few people pointed out the nail-length, as well as recognizing the dog's genuine discomfort. (No grass, says Andrea. Yeah, it's not on its favorite turf, I assume). You pointed out the body language well---he's definitely in "go away" mode. And you captured not only the body, but the glare in the eyes. (Carin points that out.) As well as the splay of his back legs, as if he's ready to lunge. (You have guts to lean over like this! These little creatures can take a piece out of someone! A fearless photographer at work...) I don't know much about Pentax's, except that they're somewhat legendary now; but either you have a fast camera/lens or you're very acute yourself, because you caught a perfectly posed shot of a dog in motion and fury, as if you worked with the dog for an hour to get it to 'pose' this way: I know you didn't do that---you couldn't, as no dog would go along with you that way (and the owner would start to get verrrrrry suspicious). But the pose is amazingly fine, poised to show everything about an angry dog. Also, the pink-red tile could almost be 'chosen' for the shot, because its colors capture the dog's mood. A real jewel of a capture---hard to achieve because the dog's in motion, and because the dog is threatening; but you got it, head on. And the light of the eye-glare mixes well with his native white streaks. A first rate dog-capture.
