Description
Another POV from yesterday's subject matter, captured 5/12/10, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
People shown in this one for size comparison. The rapids at the bottom evolve into a smooth stream near the top.
Beyond cool viewed full size.
Adelis, and have a nice day.

It looks so inviting! My feet would like to test the waters... Wonderful capture showing the range of water movement over the length of this piece; does it become a lake after the footbridge at the top of the shot? Excellent focus, colour, and clarity, Harry!

Well now I change venues...though, in some ways, this shows some of the same viewing-eye that the padlocks show: The visual activity, the play of textures, of light against dark, an appreciation for flow and shape and contrast, etc, etc. In any case, your composition here, your pov, is quite dramatic: The way the stream (rapids) opens up at bottom, like it's spilling right into our laps: First rate choice. And your capture of the band of light in the rocks about 2/3 the way up the shot. Also, fine detail on the lower waters (where 'rapids' earns its name), and lots and lots of dappled light, shadow, textures, etc. A busy shot with a single vector---it moves from bottom to top via the dramatic rapids. And because you cropped out tree tops and such, you allowed the rapids to predominate: For a small stream, it has genuine power in this capture. And yet you got very restful greens, blues and yellows throughout. Dramatic, but restful. I like your son's comment on South El Monte: I wouldn't know one place from another, out there. But whatever S. El Monte does or doesn't offer, the magic of photography is that one can make it appear as if mountain ranges met there. An exploding and dramatic pov of a simple stream. Very fine seeing, Harry.
