Description

My favorite leaf, pure as can be, captured 6/27/13, early in the AM, about 3/4ths of a mile from my restricted residence. A ZOOM would be super. Ciao, baby, and have a nice day.

Beautiful colors, light, and composition. I like the single complete leaf, surrounded by swirls and bits of other leaves. The main leaf, top showing, with more yellow tones, is nicely contrasted by the one to the left showing the underside, with white tones. I like the light and pattern play of the two leaves in cone shape to the top and right. Excellent capture with wonderful details and patterns. !

Now THIS canna shot knocked me off my feet. I agree with all the praise here---Andrea's "Superb pic" sums it up, along with denise's comment, and lucinda's always detailed appreciation. Your canna series is a "theme and variations" of sorts, because you get such different characteristics in each shot, while maintaining their similarities. This one struck me because of the highly dramatic curvilinear contrasts, the music of the contrasts, a big swirling symphony or jazz-piece of contrasts. I'm struck that all these shots could be, in reality, from one garden, one shop, etc; and yet the variety between them is huge. This emphasizes my feeling that your gallery proves that the 'shot' is everywhere, and the requirement for the shot is in our vision, not in how spectacular our surroundings are: Ie, you get these on your walks near home, and they're as if you'd traveled to Versailles---this is as beautiful and vital, and it's just 'around the corner'. One reason your gallery's so important. This is a big swirling dance. And hard to believe this activity exists in one small crop: But your camera and postwork bring that out. It comes, in part, from the equal treatment of hues, line, light, etc: Ie, letting them all come forth with strength. But there's also lots of shadow mixed with light, the contrast of background---here, the bed on which the leaves rest---with leaves, and much diversity of light: Some light seems to fall on the leaves, some feels as if it's 'behind' them (not likely in reality), and some---characteristic for you---seems to come from inside the leaves. That last part is the hardest part, something photographers and cinematographers work so hard to achieve. And the big center leaf is contrasted with the huge curling one above it, and the smaller ones around. Like a dance shot with a solo dancer in the center---but everyone is contributing. One helluva a shot, and more of your amazing journey with these highly vital leaves. A splash of a vision. Voila!
