Description

Here at RodS Art and Photography, we're committed to always pleasing our clientele. With this in mind, I'm posting the doorway from my last post, minus Ruffa per Tara's request. Ruffa is a most congenial model, and was happy to step aside for you, Tara. The only problem was she stepped a few more feet into the shoe store across the street. You should get the bill in the mail in a couple days.... :-P LOL Hope you enjoy the photo, Tara - and everyone else, too! I've been experimenting with shooting in RAW format, and "processing" later in PSCS6E. The camera captures so much more information than can be realized when you set the camera to capture in JPG. I will probably shoot RAW from now on. Thanks for dropping by, and any comments you wish to leave.

Personally I would never shoot in anything else (as 2 to the power of 14 captures so much more data than to the power of 8). You must always shoot raw mate. You made need a s lightly larger SD card (well, they're not exactly expensive) and can always convert to another format later. Well done for realising JPG ain't so good. I look forward to more .... RAW :)

Love the '121 1/2' address. Kinda makes you wonder just what that entails...like is it a closet, or in the basement? Out on the balcony of 123? Cool image with or without Ruffa, Rod.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, yes. Then when they subdivide 121 1/2 by adding a door and a wall they'll have 121 1/4 and so-on. I wonder how far they can take this. I can see it now ... number 121 1/64th ... you have to suck in your gut and slip in sideways ... it's a flatware store. : ) Thanks for sharing Rod.

Okay, this is way cool. Thanks! I was right ... it stands on its own as a fascinating photograph. There are so many lovely little asymmetries, so many details, that it's easy to get lost in the picture. The differences from one side window to the other are outstanding. Look at the tilt of the floor, and the angled tile edge on the left. It makes me think there's been a remodel, and therefore many interesting stories. Thanks, darlin'! I owe you one! (She's on her own for the shoes, though! LOL!)

This is a very cool shot. It's sort of "raw" in its look too. Excellent urban view.

Lol. Always go for the shoes. I'm a bit different. You have to hold me down & threaten me with guns & knives to get me into shoes. Only when I go to town. I hate town, too.

My advice is to shoot RAW + fine jpeg. Jpeg is so memory cheap you might as well shoot it anyways. Why? 1) Because jpeg will load quicker and it is always visible no matter what graphic program you look in. It is quicker to scan through a bunch of jpegs looking for gems than it is a bunch of RAW files. 2) jpegs keep you sharp. They force you to really work the camera settings to get a good image. And the better you get your jpeg the better your RAW base file will be. Jpegs provide sort of a baseline that you want your postwork RAW to be at least as good as. 3) RAW files by nature are flat and dull, they are just negatives. A jpeg, with all its potential flaws, is pretty much one version of a finished print. It gives you a goal to beat. Sometimes you shoot jpegs that are so good you have a real hard time matching them with RAW processing. So given how cheap in memory they are why not have one? 4) You can always open a jpeg as a RAW in CS and do the processing. Yes image quality will suffer compared to a real RAW file but for most WEB posted pages you would really have to be looking for flaws to tell. Again, given how cheap jpegs are, why limit your options? Now don't get me wrong, 80% plus of the stuff I do is from RAW. But 100% of the stuff I do is shot as jpeg+ RAW and then 100% is looked at and studied in jpeg before making the decision as to go with it or not in RAW processing. 5) Finally, jpegs make a real memory cheap and rapidly accessible archive of your works. The amateur mistake that is often made is just shooting jpeg. That is severely limiting and should never be done. Even if you don't work in RAW now you probably will in the future and it is a blessing to be able to go back to your early works and really enhance them. And while some pros just shoot RAW, a large percentage shoot RAW + jpeg in part for the reasons outlined above.
