Description

DRONES! Well, it's been a little while since I've been very active here – there are a number of reasons for that - not the least of which is my wonderful job with it screwy rotating shifts. But I digress.... I've been working on this piece for about two and a half weeks – finally got it finished up tonight. A few months ago, I entered a contest at YURDigital. I took third place with my "Martians" piece that I posted here some time ago. To make a long story short, one of the prizes was a free month's subscription to DigitalTutors.com. I was so impressed that I went ahead and bought a subscription – it's pricey, but worth every cent. I decided to try to put an image together using some of the new techniques I've learned, so I did this little take-off of "Game of Thrones." This was a real blast to put together, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Lots of stuff went into this – I thought my eyeballs were going to fall out and roll across the table while I was putting all those windows in the buildings in the background. LOL I rendered the base image with Ruffa and all the drones in Poser Pro 2014. I couldn't find a decent quadcopter model anywhere, so..... I made my own! I cobbled the little quadcopter together using nothing but poser primitives – that took a couple days to do just by itself! Just in case you're wondering why only one of the propellers is green, that's how you tell which end of it is the front on a real quadcopter. The "game of drones" wording was done in Photoshop CS 6E, using its 3-D capabilities. The layer with the wording was extruded to 3-D, and then exported as a .OBJ file. I imported it to Poser, and applied a metallic shader to it. All those buildings in the background were hand-painted in Photoshop on separate layers for the closest buildings, middle buildings, distant buildings, and far distant buildings. The clouds in the background are from a photo I shot earlier this week in the parking lot at work. I had just arrived, and there were a lot of beautiful clouds in the sky. The image of the moon is courtesy of NASA. I know I'm going to go crazy trying to remember where I got all of those little drones.... The drone just above Ruffa's right hand is the Cynagtala Drone by Ghostman, available at RDNA. The dog/dinosaur droid is a freebie by Sams3D. The K-Azonica drone is by 3-D-C, available at Renderosity freebies. Ruffa is by Pixeluna & Shadownet available @ RDNA I'm busily at work on several other projects, including of course the next page in the Girls From T.N.A. series. I've also done a lot of work in laying out the remaining chapters in this first episode of the Girls' adventures. Most likely if things don't change (and they might LOL), the story will wrap up in chapter 7. Anyway enough of my rambling.... As always, thank you all so much for dropping by, and any comments you wish to leave – I do appreciate it more thing you know! And as always thank you all for your own inspirational art!

Oh man. Isn't it great to get eyeballs deep in something like this? Your little quadcopter would be a snap in Blender ... but of course you'd have to learn the program first! LOL! (I know, I'm mean, but I also know how much you would dig using that program.) Outstanding work, my friend!

Hmmmmm. Don't know if I want to play THAT game. Looks a bit dangerous to me with all those drones. I'll leave this to the TNA girls. WOW! You sure put a lot into this one Rod! ALL those windows one at a time?! MAN! A LOT of post-work eh? The floor reflections look great! Love the color too. Great detail all packed into this scene. Awesome work Rod.

A super-nice composition, Big Bro. It can be a great poster design. And yes, PS CS6E is one top-notch product, I also agree with DT being pricey but you learn a lot from them. :-)

Great work with this excellent composed detailled scene in mixed medium, Rod! Lots of work and lots of hours spent and it can clearly bee seen!..I prefer to do all in 3D rendering (except my logo) but see the possibilities clearly. A job "eats" you easily, especially shifts - personally I'm glad to get a four day week soon after I got 60. I must say with your work and its conditions I'mimpressed that your still get so much done in creativity as you do! Have a great time, Rod! PS. Looking forward to the Girls next chapter! JohnnyC.
