Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Very impressive. I love all the color and depth in this photo. And that single plink is so perfect.

I think he made a hole in the lake with his rock. Water is starting to leak out into the air. Nice capture.

Almost Zen like in its beauty and simplicity. Well done.

Beautifully Zen shot! I would have had to work on it for hours to get it that right!

Fabulous deep colors and texture in this perfectly timed Lake Tahoe pic, Marilyn. Egad, I was last there back in 2000.

Dayum! I was SURE I commented on this. (See, I did in letters or on the phone, so I automatically think I did in your gallery.) This is exquisite. You've posted a number of shots in the last months that had very Japanese feelings to them. Not suggesting you're doing it by design, but rather that you're coming across that aesthetic quite on your own. It's the simplicity of the image: just 3 protruding rocks (no more), the beauty of their peeking through the surface, the variety of blues and greens in the water, and the branches poking up in silhouette---the simplicity but complexity is very Japanese. (They love to find the universe in the placement of stones: Japanese stone gardens become very potent symbols...) As for the plink, it's amazing you caught that on TOP of all the aesthetic detail; it's beautiful. There's a famous Zen poem that goes something like: "Leap. Splash. A frog!" The suddenness is the key: One's sitting in silence and suddenly---leap! splash! a frog! To the zen buddhists, that sudden "splash" is the essence of enlightenment, because it breaks into our formed thoughts, makes us forget who we are, makes us suddenly see the universe afresh, and that is what they say brings enlightenment down the road: Ie (in case you think I've lost my mind lol), enough blows to our habits, enough sudden realizations, and we reach nirvana. Ok, that may seem a little far fetched, but this image would suit them perfectly. (They'd say: "Plink: WAKE UP!" As in wake up your inner mind. The zen masters luuuuuuuved sudden interventions. They'd think that plink was the bee's knees.) Ok, enough Zen. But this is a beautiful image. And caught so perfectly in just a moment...
