Description

Actually, the only problem I can see is that the officer's pants are much too long. Captured 7/23/13, early in the AM, after the two vehicles exited a freeway offramp; hence the Highway Patrol. This really has to be viewed full size to do it justice. I don't know about the USA, but I would have been arrested for taking this shot in the UK. Bye bye, baby, and have a nice day.

This was a really fantastic photo, Harry. I have to say you're very brave as most policemen don't take kindly to being photographed

When you take a picture from the back it is not a problem in Holland. But the policeofficers just don't like to be photographed in front.. and I can know that :))

Well his trousers may be too long but he's got a far cooler set of wheels than the average British copper....why is he 'booking' the passenger ? ohhh yeh!! I forgot, you drive on the wrong side :-)

Likely it had to have been one of two things: speeding or talking on the cell phone while driving. I can't think of much else someone in a car like that would have done to attract the authority's attention on the freeway. As far as his trouser length, it looks like his weapons belt was so heavy that it's pulledthem down low on his snake hips; perhaps if he stood there long enough they'd be hitting the ground! Excellent reportage photography, Harry!

Yes it very true, most circumstances in the UK you will be stopped or even arrested for taking pictures of Police Offices.. But not all.. I never risked a shot in the US, as I had enough trouble with Customs! lol Great shot Harry! Like the cruiser! Rob

I love the repartee here, about capturing UK police, and the cop's pants. Denise may be right about the weight of that weaponry (and radios), as I imagine police dept's have military standards re dress (ie, the clothes should fit well)---though I could be way off on that. But you see police in Chicago with sagging pants because of all the hardware...But anyway: Harry, all police narrative aside, this is a beautiful pic! You have the most subtle pink undertones, it's so clear, there's a strong light in it, the sheen on the H.Patrol car is beautiful (your car acumen comes out there), and your color scheme---with the blues of one home and the pink of the other---is terrific, as is the composition with the shot on an angle and our eyes gently rolling away to the right. Even the patrol man is lined up perfectly with the mullion of the house-window in front of him. This is beautiful! One can say that all this is 'coincidence': But no. An experienced photographer will get these things instinctively, from their time spent on the street, getting captures quickly. They just 'get' it. And your experience adds up to your 'getting' it. It's beautiful. The tones here...beautiful. I don't know why I waited on this, but with all the other stuff in your gallery, I just let it go. I'll end tonight with this---a scintillating beautifully-toned shot.

Every once in a while I take to browsing through the photography section here at Renderosity and stumble across something that absolutely fascinates me. Here it's not the photo per se, excellent as it is, but the discussion it evoked about photographing police officers. Can it really be illegal in the UK? It's funny how folks in the US assume our legal systems are essentially identical (except for barristers, solicitors and the silly, out-of-date wigs). But they're not, are they! Good Ole Boy didn't identify where this photo was taken. Can't make out the patrol officer's license plate but it looks to me as though that's a California Highway Patrol vehicle and the area, judging by the houses, looks a lot like the Burbank area a short ways back from the movie studios.
