Description

Just a bit of old photography and playing in Photoshop & Filter Forge. I shot this photo of downtown Kansas City, Missouri several years ago during a camera club photo walk. I did a bit of fiddling with Filter Forge to give it the feel of an old postcard. I thought about smoothing out the grain in the sky, but I decided to leave it there - I think it adds to the image in this case. This is from a 35mm negative scanned at 4800 DPI. You can actually see the film grain at this resolution. I was inspired by some of Tony Ball's (tball2004) wonderful work. If you're not familiar with his superb photography, be sure to drop by his gallery and have a look. I know my activity has been rather spotty lately. I'm trying to get used to a new shift rotation schedule, and on top of that, I've not been feeling very well the last couple of weeks. I'm doing better today - hope that trend continues. I'll be getting caught up on comments tonight.. I'm working on the next page in the T.N.A. series - should have it posted in the next few days. I've finished laying out the chapter outline for the rest of the story - as it stands now, this episode will conclude with Chapter 7. And yes, there will be more episodes, and adventures for the Girls. Hope you all are having a great weekend! Wow - can you believe it's already August?? This month will mark my 4th year here at Rendo! BTW, my photo of the stairs (without the girl LOL) was chosen as one of the photos of the week in the Photography Gallery last week! WooHoo!! Thanks for dropping by, and for any comments you wish to leave! I appreciate them all!

It looks like a tri-color shot and it does give it a retro look. Good call, I think not to smooth out the grain in the sky. If you did it would wipe out the tecture of the buildings and that is a good part of the image character. Of course you could mask them but then I think it would look "fake." My niece just got back from 6 weeks photo school at California Academy of Fine Arts where they made the kids shoot 35 mm BW as well as digital. To make them understand the media of the old masters. She loved it and is now looking for a darkroom to rent. Good luck on that now kid.

I do like how this turned out Rod. It does look like an old post card. It's always a bit strange and surreal to see what is a busy street so empty. That is what makes this image. I hope you keep feeling better too!!! We miss you when you're gone :)
