Description
Volume II - Episode 22
Where: Melbourne, Australia
When: 1 month and 1 day after E-Day, 2:05 pm
Time, it turned out, had done little to dull Jessica's pain.
She thought it would be easy. History, after all, was history. And the whole world had changed since then.
Yet here she sat, on the steps of the Quinn Hill Shoppingtown cinema complex, her heart pounding furiously in her chest, feeling terrified and utterly alone.
At first she had dreaded the thought of seeing him again; of the painful, ancient feelings it might stir up. But then a different fear had taken over: what if he didn't come? How would that affect her?
She checked her watch. 2:05pm. She'd been waiting here over an hour.
Well, that answers that question, she thought grimly. He's not coming. Either he'd read the note and hated her for what she'd done, or he simply couldn't face the truth.
She stood up and walked down the stairs. Every step felt surreal, detached, as if this was nothing but a dream. A strange and desperate emptiness filled her. At any moment, she thought that she might burst. There was no way her heart could hold back this much pressure, this much sorrow. She touched her belly absent-mindedly, as if to remind herself that she was still there, that all of this was real.
And even as she walked through the door and out onto the sidewalk, she half-expected to see him running down the street towards her, a shy and nervous grin on his face, his eyes filled with eagerness and, dare she even think it, love.
But the streets were empty.
With a loud, heartbroken sigh, she dumped the teddy bear into the trash and walked away.

The world becomes empty and the males carry on disappearing ... in some way or other.
