Description
Recently, my department at work had a tour around the Veolia Integrated Waste Management Facility in Southwark, London.
This is the conveyor belt taking items to be sorted into metal and non-metal using an electro-magnetic induction device. This causes all metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous, to shoot off down one chute while the rest goes for some other sorting process.
The slight motion blurring gives some idea of just how fast this stuff is shooting by. It surprised me just how fast it can be processed.
The metals are sorted into the ferrous/non-ferrous categories by more conventional magnetism at a later stage.
A truly interesting tour. :-)
