Description
Captured 8/10/13, at an annual car show not far from home.
A narrow business street and adjoining parking lot are a lousy venue for an auto show, and the black asphalt is hot on the soles in August, but it was free and nearby, so I can hardly complain.
Anyway, I finally got my 471 shots from the show into apple pie order, with each of the models and participants neatly placed into their own little file; ergo, introducing the first of the vehicles, a beautiful black Caddy.
It was quite bright out there at this juncture, so I reduced the lighting impact in these pics.
ZOOM to enjoy that awesome chrome, if nothing else.
If interested in the history of this venerable model, I suggest going to http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1940-1949-cadillac3.htm for the pertinent details. Incidentally, the tail fins were inspired by those of the WWII Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter.
Tally ho, and have a nice day.

Wow, gleaming in the sun like a cache of black diamonds, Harry; what a beauty! Stunning shots of this awe-inspiring vehicle. There was some kind of antique car show at the Ballard Locks last weekend, but I was unable to make it.

Stunning. Your bringing down the light a bit only helps bring out the diamond-like sheen of this beauty ("like a cache of black diamonds"---denise). I mean, this is black...but, like gold, it has all kinds of hues inside it. (Gold can look reddish, yellowish, blueish, etc, as you no doubt know.) This black is blueish and silverish and almost purplish in spots. So clear and clean. When I've photographed cars, I've struggled with exposure, light, etc: I assume that, from photographing these for so long, you've developed the conversance and instinct to use your camera correctly. The top car-shot lines perfectly with the pole in the background; and has a wonderful green car pulled and distorted in the caddy's side. In fact all the reflections here seem in total harmony with the car's shape. On the bottom, you have a big tree right at the cadilac insignia, and another tree inside a circle-of- light to the insignia's right---more of that instinctive composition. (If these formal observations get tedious, it's because it's so hard to find good words for technical detail...we're stuck with "that long shape on the left" and things like that.) I can't get over the sheen you got. And of course, you've given your shots at opposite angles, just the basic 'good grammar' of montage making. Stunning clarity and beauty. And kudos for dealing with the asphalt in such a hot summer. (I imagine the heat from all black chrome in the sun doesn't make it any too cool either. More beautiful car work, Harry. (I'll pick up later in the day or night...I've been here an hour and have to get back to sleep. Part II to come...as you can see I've had a blast with Part I...)
