Return to Outpost 94 When we last met; Geoff, Mary and Coop were headed west, Dr. El was about to meet with Conner, Blackfeather had intercepted a transmission, Sparrow was about to roost, and Momma Bird was on the warpath. A contingent of Blackfeathers Rapiers has arrived at air gate 3. “Gentlemen we are hot, all weapons at the ready!” Shouts Sgt. Westy over the blaring klaxons. The Rapiers quickly move left and right to cover the gate. Westy continues, “We have no idea what we are dealing with. Do not shoot unless I give the command. I repeat do not shoot until told to do so.” There is an inner and outer gate to the air duct. The space between the two has two failsafe devices. The first is an intercom and the second an internal release for the inner gate. In this way no one could become trapped in the air gate. The outer gate is can only be opened from one of the control rooms. The command center has realized too late that the outer gate has been compromised by an internal saboteur(s). The huge piston operated gates begins to slowly rotate inward with a groan and a hiss. “Ready on the left?” “Yes, sir.” “Ready on the right?” “Yes, sir.” As the aperture between gate and frame widens a barely discernible figure can be seen. “Whoever you are hands behind your head and walk slowly forward. Failure to comply will result in my men opening fire.” The figure raises their hands and places them behind their head. When they reach the edge of the inner gate, Sgt. Westy gives a second command to the individual, “Stop there; slowly remove your helmet.” “Frack, it’s a girl Sgt.!” exclaims one of the Rapiers. “What gave it away? The hair, or breasts?” Give me strength thinks the Sgt. A vibrant voice emanates from the gateway, “Hello boys, what’s the matter never seen a lady before? I see you started the party without me. I know it was an oversight on your part but I never got an invitation. I thought I’d just drop by to see how things were shakin’.” (To be Continued) Thanks one and all!
