Description

It took place decades ago. One man, and two women. One with a kind heart and soft hand; one possessed by jealousy and bent on all or nothing. Sonya and Nathan were the item of the community. Sabrina had wanted, and almost expected that Nathan would have been her's. In the end, nobody had anything, anyone, or even their own life. It didn't matter to Sabrina that anything she had with Nathan in the past, as short-lived as it was, had long been over; she still expected that Nathan was going to come back to her someday. That someday wasn't going to happen, and when the realization that Nathan and Sonya were to be married soon, all sense of reason had been lost. In her mind, if Sonya was out of the picture, Nathan would happily come back to her. Sabrina had learned about their plans one evening and decided that she could remove Sonya from the scene and have Nathan all to herself; not realizing any such attempt would certainly have the opposite effect; but as you know, there is no reasoning with an person who has become unreasonable. In her mind should thought it would have all just fallen into place smoothly. She thought all the details would fall into place without any notion things would go wrong - terribly wrong. She thought she could simply surprise the couple, do off with Sonya, and Nathan would simply realize how much she loved him, and they'd live happily ever after. As though life imitated made for TV movies. It was about sunset on that rainy day fall day, as the couple emerged from their walk in the park, returning to his car, Sabrina sprung from the brush with gun in hand, nervously trembling; yet clearly pointing it at Sonya. Nathan tried to reason with her, but as he seen her finger gripping more tightly on the trigger he lunged in front of the fire taking the bullet meant for his beloved Sonya. The last word he spoke being "Run!" That is just what Sonya did. She ran as fast as she could up the long winding road out of the secluded park, hoping to make it to the public road before Sabrina caught up. However, Sabrina hadn't taken to pursue Sonya, the finality of the gunshot shattered her blind delusion just as it had shattered any hope of her dream. Reality hadn't sat with her long though. Believing that now the only way she can be with Nathan, since she cannot have him in life, is to take her own life an join him in death. She raised the gun to chest and pulled the trigger. Sonya heard the shot, but didn't know the circumstances, now was she about to pause a moment to look back and see if she was being pursued; she just kept running. The gunshots hadn't gone unnoticed to the outside world, someone had heard it and sent the police to the park. They were unaware of Sonya running up the winding road from the park, as was the unfortunate driver ahead of them. That night was a tragedy in many ways for too many people. Sabrina thought she'd have Nathan in life, and when her blind jealousy destroyed that image, she thought it could be so in death too. Emotions can change our perceptions, our thoughts, or just simply make us lose touch with reality. On rainy fall nights, on that road up out of the park, there are still people to this day that run into Sonya, running for her life, only to lose it again as they pass by. Thanks for taking a peek tonight!
