Description

Thank you for your visit. I'll appreciate any comment or suggestion. Better view with zoom in. The Roman city of Saepinum located at the intersection of two major roads: the Pescasseroli-Candela and the road that connects the Matese to the coast. The area occupies an area of about 12 hectares square, surrounded by a wall crosslinked. The walls were built by Emperor Augustus, who he commissioned to build it to the two adopted sons Tiberius and Drusus, more for the decorum of the city for urgent needs difensive. Along the walls there are four doors correspondence of the main roads, the Cardo and the Decuman: Boiano Porta, Porta Tammaro, Benevento Porta, Porta Terravecchia and stand 35 towers (of which today there are only 27). The towers are distant from each other about 100 feet (30-35 m) and have a regular arrangement: in fact seven stores in shorter segments and double doubles, where the veil between the doors and the instance. The Thistle is the town's main street, which connects Porta Terravecchia to Porta Tammaro, retracing the ancient route that leads from the mountains to the valley floor. The Decuman is the axis road that joins Boiano door and door Benevento along the ancient route. It is paved with limestone and was originally a long colonnade with arcades. Presents "crosswalk" (large square stones for crossing in case of rain) and sides numerous shops and fountains.
