Great Sand Dunes National Park Near Alamosa, Colorado Hugging the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado, Great Sand Dunes National Park is home to the highest dunes in North America. The Sangre de Cristo mountains are in the background.

Beautiful sinuous forms in the dunes. I thought the sand dunes on the Oregon coast were high (some are supposed to be 500 feet tall & I can attest to the fact that they look enormous when you're cresting their tops in a dune buggy), but apparently these are even taller...
