Description

I've never seen a forest fire but the leftovers that I have seen here, make a devastating impression on me. We were on our way from the Grand Canyon to Flagstaff back (I do not remember which road). At another point, the charred trees lay like burnt matchsticks in the landscape.

This is a great photo to show the devastation of one cigarette thrown out a car window!

Very common scene in the western mountains Sonja and will be becoming even more so. I have mixed feelings for the lives lost of so many animals who cannot outrun the fire when these happen but in the long run we need more fires or we will be facing an even worse future. Smokey the Bear Campaign of Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires of the 60s-90s was a tragic mistake.
