Description

Nazi brinkmanship knew no bounds in 1941. To destabilise the Middle East they urged some Iraqi generals to unseat Great Britain from its last toe-hold in Iraq. The Luftwaffe even contributed some token aircraft as a gesture toward this adventure, hastily repainted in Iraqi markings to show that this was indeed about Arab self-determination and absolutely not at all about Rommel needing lots of oil... So, it was ON! The British relief column raced, foot to the floor, from Palestine while other reinforcements from India disembarked at Basra, but the RAF's training school west of Baghdad threw the very best in Depression-Era aviation into the fray too... and won the day against the fledgling Iraqi Army and its chorus-line of Axis troublemakers. So Hitler's charming "advisors" and the unfortunate Junta members found themselves hot-footing it, to spend the rest of Hitler's war nursing their bruised egos over schnapps on the Axis diplomatic circuit. The Luftwaffe's presence in Iraq during this "Mother of Other Battles" seems to have been singularly ineffective in changing the outcome. Almost as if they had a far more important and secret mission... perhaps harassing that self-styled "Loretta of Arabia"- the King's Own Curator- Ebony "Bunny" Love??? Touchwoods Bf110G (from another place ;-) pretending to be an early model, and retextured for its brief service in "Fliegerfuhrer Irak." Alas, aside from Panko's weapons most of the other content in this image comes from "another place..." too. Rendered in Poser 9 Thanks for viewing and comments

:-) Cheers mate, Basra, Baghdad....oil, not much changes....no war can come as a surprise anymore, we've fought them all before. I love your take on this often forgotten episode, I can't help wondering how many will think this is pure fiction...... Thanks for the dedi mate, and for the tantalizing history titbit......
