Description

We stopped at the S. Dakota Air & Space Museum just outside of Rapid City. The museum is right next to Ellsworth Air Force Base, where a squadron of B-1B Bombers are stationed. So as not to leave out the Airplane Fans (Rob, Bill.... :-D), I managed to get a few shots of a B-1B taking off. These planes are huge, and very LOUD - unless you happen to be the unfortunate bad guy it's coming after. In that case you'll never know what hit you. They also had a short tour of the base you could go on. The lady that was our tour driver said the B-1s have been flying a lot more readiness drills the last week or so. I would guess they're getting ready in case they get called to blow something up..... somewhere...

We were there a couple years ago, saw the museum, but didn't take a tour of the base. As I recall, we were making a quick overnight stop in Rapid City on our way to Independence, and didn't want to keep our Missouri friends waiting. :) Bill is very busy right now. He's ummm ... well ... he's killing zombies on his phone. It seems to be quite important. I did make him put the game on pause while I read what you wrote, and he was happy to hear what you had to say. :) (Retirement is all breakneck speed and activity, as you can tell!) :)

Well, tell Bill that we all appreciate his hard work and dedication keeping us safe from all those nasty (and incessantly hungry) zombies! I'd hate to come home from a great vacation just to be eaten! ;-D Yeah - retirement sounds like a real tough go..... LOL!

something somewhere- my hope is that for once they hit the right guys, not always blaming 3rd class dictators,or playing the good baddie and bad baddie game. or supporting corrupt regimes (vietnam for example) and tell the soldiesr they go and fight for freedom, and once the vets get home they shit on them. no good to me.

The B1 is an impressive plane. Origionally designed as a long range strageic bomber with nuclear payload, it later came into significant use early in Afganistan because of its ability to stay on site for long durations. It was always easy to tell which birds were armed with Nuc's when on the staging pad at the local AFB. They were the ones with all the extra security around them.
