Description
Captured 9/2/13 (Labor Day), early morning, at an industrial area some blocks from my abode.
Plenty of detail in this one, so definitely worth a ZOOM.
The silos sit on an abandoned site, so I haven't a clue as to what these tanks held: beer, oil, gas, fuel, pesticide, cleaning fluid, methane, napalm, missiles, you name it. Your guess is as good or better than mine. The sign at the lower left of the photo told me nothing. Actually, I doubt if it was anything explosive or toxic or there would have been gigantic warning signs posted. I tried finding out what their purpose was but there were no signs, office or anyone around to give me an answer.
Anyway, at least they're neat and tidy. Their texture reminds me of carburetor air filters.
Toodles.

We would like to think that these silos were filled with ice cold beer. I noticed the multicolored warning signs on the silos which should give you information on what was in them. eg... gas or liquid and how toxic. There is also a large sign mounted on the chain link fence which could be a clue. Nice shot!

Umm, like I said in my narrative, there was no information posted anywhere as to the contents stored in the silos, and I got up relatively close to these cylindrical beauties.

They do look like air filters, maybe they are air filters for a huge underground Morlock culture, a la "The Time Machine". The filters appear clean, which is not what I'd have expected after growing up in smoggy Southern California (dare I hope it's cleaner now than when I was little?). Or maybe they're not very good filters, allowing everything to pass through them. Beer storage is a good second guess/hope... What a crystal clear and sharp capture, Harry; I can easily read the chemical hazard signs, but all they give is information for firefighters/disaster teams on how to deal with whatever was in them. If there is anything on them saying what it was it sure must be small and/or illegible! I like all the metal rails and other accoutrements on these structures!

They have signs on, saying 0/0/2 (in red).. Not telling you much.. Obviously those that need to know, know! Just in case.. I would imagine, pesticides or the like? Rob

I don't usually do several shots in a row, as I try to skip around to get a wide array. But this sequence has been so compelling, I couldn't resist. What a fine series of formal captures, not all minimalist, necessarily, but all with a certain simplicity in design; and with really fine composition/cropping/etc. This one is just perfect. Your centered composition works to a tee, a little jewel. And the play of power lines above these beasts, along with the line of the fence below, are all in perfect harmony with each other. This is finely-tuned seeing. As for the signs, I used a magnifying glass, and could only make out some of the words---at least warnings came through. But you listed everything from beer to napalm, lol, so you have the possibilities covered. What's so compelling about this is the wonderful luminosity you captured on the verticals, in contrast to the horizontals and diagonals. Just love that, as well as the light on the stairs and other beams surrounding the silos. It just says "perfection". My vote on the contents, btw, is---you ready?---4 mammoth pencil erasers, where the erasers have been worn to the nub, and the pencils are underground because they're totally embarrassed. (Hey I took a shot...) Terrific piece of work, Harry. (I've been here 45 minutes, I'll come back tonight and again tomorrow or the next day...I ain't finished! Hope your Halloween will be gloriously spooky and fine!)
