Description
During one of our vacation days in Switzerland we drove through the Gotthard tunnel, a 16.7 kilometer long tunnel through the Swiss Alps that makes traveling to Italy faster. When we entered the north end of the tunnel it was cloudy and rainy. When we exited to the south this is the type of weather we found.
This photo was taken in Lugano, an Italian town located in Switzerland. I learned there is an entire section of Switzerland that speaks Italian, but have Swiss nationality. It was a beautiful and interesting trip. There is so much about Europe that I never learned in school in the USA. I am having a great time learning more now.
I cropped the ugly date stamp off this photo and re-sized it for the Renderosity specs, otherwise it is untouched.
Also a big thank you to all of you who have looked at, commented on or rated my other photos. You all take such beautiful pictures that it gives me a special feeling when you take the time to look at my amateur attempts.

Wow! So much water! I never heard of a tunnel that long. That must be quite an experience!

a beautiful sweeping capture of this sweeping sight. You have lots of atmosphere here---the natural "fade" of distance, the way air fades-out hues and shapes as objects get further and further away---and that's something that digital photographers often get rid of, which is a shame. But you let it be, and that gives a genuine spaciousness to your shot. You've got the water framed between those two peaks, one left and one right; and you've got at least 3 levels of clarity: The front patch of trees, which are ultra clear; the middle peaks, which are partly clear; and the back peaks, which are bathed in atmospheric "haze". It's so easy to remove that haze, in digital software; and I'm so glad you didn't remove it. This has a film feeling, for that reason. It's simple but very complex. And it's beautiful.
