Description

The Steamboat Arabia sank after hitting a snag in the Missouri River in 1856. It was loaded with more than 200 tons of supplies headed for the frontier. In 1988 a team composed of members of two families detected the wreck 45 feet below a cornfield where the river used to flow 132 years ago. This display shows a tiny sample of common household hardware of the day...door knobs, coat hooks, padlocks...what else do you see? Left this big for your examination. The Steamboat Arabia Museum is in Kansas City, Missouri. You'll be amazed at what you see there...I was:)

Oh, my! Hardware store from 1850s? The thumbnail made me think of a store with chocolates! What a surprise this was! Glad to see you posting again. What I find most interesting is the location of the find and the shift in the river's course. It makes me wonder, considering such a short time period, what else can be found underground in the Mississippi-Missouri basins? More surprises on the way? Keep up the good work! :-)

I find the lock most interesting, but I wonder why they would want to display so many alike items.
