Description


The windmills have been used from as early as the16th century until the beginning of the 20th century. Mykonos and the Cyclades were located on major trade routes, and with a year round steady supply of wind, the windmills were used to refine grains and compact it for transport. For that reason, most windmills were located near the harbor on the western end of the island. After WW I, through the progress of technology, they lost their financial value. Interesting but I wonder what sort of blades were used. I am guessing they were like sails.

@whaleman. Cloth material was wrapped around the individual arms of the windmill when the mill was not in use. When they were using the mill, the cloth was unfurled, sort of like sails on a sailboat, and spread between the individual arms.
