Description

Looking down at the spiral staircase in the Cape Blanco lighthouse. My wife suffers from both claustrophobia & vertigo, which made climbing this staircase challenging for her, but she bravely conquered it & made it all the way to the top. Next post will be of the lighthouse lamp itself taken at the very top of this staircase. Tara (auntietk) posted a very similar shot of this same staircase a few days ago... Please zoom.

Down or up, this is a first rate photo! Ready for a wee bit of trivia? Notice how all the mortar between the bricks is white? When the Coast Guard operated all these light houses they painted all the inside surfaces white. Once they passed control onto BLM, state or local groups, conservationists discovered that the paint was deteriorating the brick and stripped it all off. Now that plus a dollar may get you a cup of coffee somewhere:-)

I´ve always wanted to take a pic of a spiral staircase, but never come accross one. Love the colours in this.
