Description

. Along the North Platte River in Western Nebraska, Scotts Bluff stand above the prairie like a sentinel some 800 feet, or 243.84 meters high. American Indians used this corridor to places on the river where Bison herds stopped to drink. They called this formation "Me-a-pa-te" meaning, "Hill that's hard to go around" Thanks for stopping by.

My question.... subject flowers or background or both? Its a great photo.... just my taste... Just a tad higher POV here, leaving flowers out of way of formation in back here. Just my 2 cents. Again, no right or wrong here, just offering an opinion. :-)

This fabulous mesa formation reminds me very much of a wedding cake, and consequently of the lyrics 'MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark' by Richard Harris. remember: the line: ... someone left the cake out in the rain and it took so long to bake it ... ? ;) I do love your composition with the flowers in the foreground - that softens the overall starkness, simply a feast for the eyes ... A very nice shot, but I agree with FredNunes comment - shooting from a slightly higher POV (which would leave the flowers below the horizon line) would improve this. But it comes down to a subjective matter of taste...

This is an inspired composition and fine just as it is! My take on the other suggestions is that (since it is so late in the season) I would have left the POV as is but would have snipped the three offending higher branches, but not so as it could be seen to have been snipped.

Great capture. I love the translation and can easily believe that is what they saw this as. I like the flowers in the foreground

Oh this is an interesting bunch of posts....the first time here I have seen anyone give a critique with suggestions for improvement. While I can see the point made about the flowers above the horizon line, it is as they say subjective. I personally rather like the flowers that reach above because they act as a frame and pointing lines to the main subject. Along with the fantastic cloud formation which also draws the eye to the mountain I think it is a brilliant shot. So I thank you for posting and I also thank those who gave alternate POV critique which gave me something to think through as well as to consider when taking my own photos.

A really beautiful shot Bob especially with the flowers in the foreground. This reminds me of Devils Tower in Wyoming.

Compositionally this is a perfect example of the Rule of Thirds. The blue sky starts in the upper left corner and leads the eye directly to the tower. The tower is perfectly framed by the wildflowers. On a purely artistic level this is visually stunning. The tower reminds me of a collapsed pyramid or a volcanic core. Very good work, Bob. I've been through Nebraska. This may be the highest elevation in the state.
