Description
Captured 10/7/13, very early morning, about .60 miles from home.
In preface, I may or may not have mentioned it before, but there is a huge freeway widening effort going on in my area, replete with all sorts of humongous equipment, digging, pounding and smoothing, and with all kinds of trucks and many guys and some gals in hard hats at work. There are traffic detours and rerouting galore as a result. That said, I've taken advantage of the situation, making a pest of myself in doing so, by photographing almost everything involved in this awesome task. And the noise from it all, along with the already usual thundering traffic, is ear and head splitting.
So, while all of this widening is going on, the heavy equipment is constantly being driven back and forth on and off dirt lots adjacent to the freeway, and in the process, forcibly grinding up the soil into a virtual soft talcum powder texture. This is further accentuated by the workers walking to and from their equipment, pulverizing the dirt even further. I took oodles of fotos, and they were snapped early enough where the low hanging sun pops them out with a cool variety of neat contrasts and shadows. Careful walking while taking photos was essential so as not to kick up dirt and disturb the tracks. Since I lack Andrea's charm in obtaining portraits, I just blithely shoot away, making myself as inconspicuous as possible. I've received some quizzical looks, but haven't been challenged as yet. Lots more of this genre to come.
Arrivederci.

Excellent photo with all sorts of interesting prints... Good eye. Love the patterns. My first assignment in the army was at Fort Irwin, California 37 miles out into the Mohave from Barstow. We ran our 60 ton tanks all over the place there and reduced the sand and dirt to that same talcum powder consistency. More people, more cars, more lanes of freeway...remember the good old days of less? I know you do:)

Very cool looking capture Harry, and great idea for the title.

An amazing record of all the traffic, construction and otherwise, on this soft ground. Rather makes me wonder what future archeologists would make of our culture when they came across this...luckily your photos could give them some guidance, if they survive! I love the patterns of all these tracks, wheeled and footed; fantastic shot, Harry!

With that soft soil, I did leave footprints, but I was careful not to photograph them.

I always wonder why they didn't plan better in the past and just build all these freeways and roads at once I wish they would have built a separate freeway for all the trucks to go on and one for cars maybe some day but oh no then that would mean more orange cones all over the place.
