Description

One of the more unusual cars in Reno's National Automobile Museum. This is the 1937 Airomobile. It was designed and built to be sold as a "peoples car", like the Volkswagen. This prototype was driven 45,000 miles around the USA to stir up interest of potential buyers and investors. Two things spelled doom for this well engineered, unusual three wheeler...investors never came and the onset of World War II changed priorities for everybody.

Crazy looking car Bill. But it looks as though it'd been a winner for people as they invest in a first car? We had a similar thing here in the sixties although smaller. We called it the bubble car, they were really nifty too. One got inside by opening the entire front of the car steering column and all :) Nice shooting buddy

What a strange and lovely thing; I can't help but think that with the red colour that back end makes it look like a lobster! I'd buy one...

The shape looks a bit like a Manitee - hope I've spelt that right - with eyes in the back of its head !! Nice shots and it makes me wonder what the shell is made from!

OH, my! Nice collage of a strange vehicle. Looks like a Volkswagen crossed with the tail of a plane. I see no rear view mirrors and wonder how one can see what's behind. The rear windows are SO high up. Also, the trunk entrance from the side must be a back killer when loading baggage. Being a 3 wheeler, I wonder about sideways stability, particularily in strong cross winds. Good use of the lighting. Thanks for doing this as a collage. We really get an idea of how this odd fellow looks. And thanks for the history! Somehow it reminds me of the Aerotrain, a failed General Motors attempt att putting Greyhound buses on railroad tracks in the early 1950s (my first model was one of the Aerotrain, made by Varney).

It does look a bit like a lobster from the rear and the colour emphasises that too, very unusual and would probably sell now :) good shot !

Now, that is one strange looking vehicle! Still.... It it came to a choice between this and those "Smart" Cars, I'd take this one... It does remind me of a freshly boiled lobster! :-D Very cool shot, Bill!

Stellar collage of this bizarre auto, seemingly more fit for driving on the ocean bottom than for motoring on the surface highways and byways of the planet, Bill.

Interesting vehicle... A typical representative of the era of streamline experiments... Like such cars as Adler Autobahn, Stoewer Greif or the car bodies of Gläser Manufactury in Dresden (all german factories). Or the famous czech TATRA 80 / 87...
