On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Your wife said I had to come and see this. I can see what she means about one scene, two views. This black and white seems edgier, as if something is about to happen. The light and shadows could be seen as either nostalgic or sinister. Nice work.

This is very different from Tara's - aside from the obvious b&w treatment, it has much higher contrast - deep blacks & bright whites. But like hers, a fine composition that does justice to it's subject & a masterful job of balancing light & shadow. They're both winners in my book...

Absolutely fantastic B/W shot very well done !

There is something rather sinister about this, which is the product of your super high contrast treatment. Love it!

Aha, time for duelling photos...I will probably like both of them equally! ... No, I think Bill's has a slight edge for me this time!

Having looked at Tara's pic I will comment here first Bill. Both pics are superb in conveying intrigue as to the plates being bare and the cupboard too. One wonders what might have caused this as I am sure this did happen in real life.

Yes, it could seem like the family left in a hurry. Or maybe it was arranged. Remember, I know next to nothing about such. What I know is, that it is a really good photography.

gorgeous capture!

Both excellent. I am a fan of black and white, and works superbly here.

Awesome light and shadow play in this great B&W Bill!

I'm waiting for the eerie music to start and hearing Rod Serling's voice telling us that we've now entered the Twilite Zone

Stark contrast in this indoor pic, Bill. I wasn't able to detect any ectoplasm in this shot.

..And what happened that resulted in this setting being left? A story waiting to be written... I just saw Tara's version of this - it always amazes me how the same scene can be photographed by two (or more) artists, and still be different.. This is another haunting and beautifully photographed scene, Bill!

A little sinister, yes; but it still has that same feeling of sad neglect, maybe edgier for the upped contrast. Well done, you!

I like your version of this Bodie "scene." Such a tiny house, with limited points of view, yet you've come up with something I didn't see. Fabulous!

It makes me wonder who had been there and where did they go?

wonderful lighting!

On this photo is much more ghost then on Tara's one, Bill. It's cool to see the different, so thank you both very much. I prefer Tara's interpretation, but I know it was just to show us another way of looking and capturing. It should be as fun to practice these beautiful hobby together, and it will be very stimulating too, huh. Please give your lovely Tara a hug from me (plus one of you first :D)!

This picture has a sinister feel to it. Between Tara's and Bill's capture i choose this one. Superb capture Bill. God bless.

Thanks to both of you for posting your individual photos of the same location. I love both of them. This one looks abandoned longer with the dusty dining area. As another already stated I am sure this must be loads of fun to pursue you hobby together.

Both are wonderful images. I agree with those whose comment on the edgier feel of this one. While Tara's is filled with a gentle melancholy of the hasty departure and long neglect, this adds a darker fear. The bright light near the table focuses attention on said hasty departure, while the shadows have a living quality, and seem to be closing in. With Tara's, I feel the presence of the memories of the departed residents. Here I feel their ghosts. The area to the right, that is not in Tara's image, has a very ragged appearance, the lamp hovers like a specter top left, and the shadows of the cabinet sink into an infinite darkness. This has a very sinister and threatening atmosphere. Excellent lighting and use of B&W.

Very spooky, even more so in black and white.. Just like an old ghost movie, I'm expecting Bela Lugosi to step out! lol Good one mate Rob

Lovely shot and very spooky. The Bad Man from Bodie left quick when the law showed up.
