Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Very wonderful capture.

I agree with your sentiments entirely

A radioactive beast as well looking at him! Ditto with the whole Halloween thing. I hear due to the risk of drowning, apple bobbing tubs have to have warnings displayed. In 12 languages with pictograms too. Also phone numbers for child help lines must be shown by law! So children who would rather play computer games than join in apple bobbing can report their parents.

Nice shot!

I concur... times have changed for the far worse in today's time! How sad too... my childhood memories from the fifties were so sweet at a time of such beautiful fall splendor growing-up in Ohio here in the USA. - Really cool spider by the way!

Nicely captured!

I am wholeheartedly in agreement with you I won't let my children take part for exactly that reason, nice fun shot :)

Elf and safety executive. A compelling argument for your bonfires :) We are losing out Britishness wholesale now. And I am with you on the whole trick or treat nonsense. I just don't open the door. Now there's a fantastic trick of leaving some little ponce on the doorstep full of hope

Lovely Andrea, afraid I am with you, I am a bah humbug for Halloween. We had mischief night, it entailed knocking on doors & running away, only our neighbours though :o)

Lovely pic.

We never had this Halloween in Denmark, when I was young. We had Shrove in February, where children dresssed up to anything and ran from door to door and begged buns or money. Not particulary for Horror. But Now beople are aware of Halloween and like to have the pumpkins. Havent seen people dressed up to look scary.....yet.

Yikes!... don't know this species... an alien species of spider. lol Many people put in their windows "No Tricks, No Treats, No Thanks!". In the states Halloween is a much bigger thing, women dressing up as witches and plonking their black cats on the porch smeared with Vaseline.. bit extreme but I guess they try and turn the pet cat into Mangy Old Cat from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. If you are a black cat best to hide for 24 hours. :-) Down here there was the Halloween Parade and a firework display at the seafront.

Hello, Andrea:)) I have been a 'spy' in your gallery all this time, but is so different to bla-bla here:))) I love this image, but agree with you ...here in my place we never had halloween...only lately and of course, is a comercial 'thing', as many others. Today i saw a bunch of strange figures under my window. They dressed funny, anyway:)) . Love this spider:))

Living outside the village has its advantages not much junk mail through the letterbox and no trick or treat kids.

When I was a mere stripling, there was a lot of window soaping and vandalism during Halloween, but since then, it has evolved into mostly adult guided festivites at the parks, inflatable ghoulies on the lawn, and parent monitored trick or treating at the front door. In fact, I ceased getting costumed urchins at the door decades ago. And, hardly any feral youth nonsense to be found the morning after. And if you want real commercialism, try Christmas for an example. Oh, nice spider and web. At least you recognized the holiday.

H&S sounds like "Big Brother". Who has empowered that bunch to dip into everybody's life to such a degree? I hear about H&S all the time from my British airplane-nut mates. Like your postwork on this itsy-bitsy spider.

AS far as Halloween decorations go - I like this one and an excellent photo! Halloween is a quiet time here because there are no kids to Trick or Treat. I do like the after Halloween 50% off candy sales!!!!!
