Description

Steatoda nobilis. In my garden/computer room. WHAT a beauty! False widows have a reputation for biting people, although in truth, this is quite a rare occurrence. You would need to be very unlucky, or go out of your way to be bitten. They only bite if mishandled or provoked. People who have experienced the bite say it's similar to a bee sting. Yes, she is quite a beauty, but I am glad she is not in my room :) I am glad to say our spiders are doing no harm, but making alot of annoying webs in the house. The worst is, that the younger guests see them before I do. They dont use my kind of glasses :-P

Better in your room than mine! Yeah we have Huntsman over here with the same rep. People run a mile, when in reality they are no venomous and even social!

This handsome specimen looks different than the regular garden variety black widow with the red hour glass. A bite from one of those can be curtains for the victim. That said, a remarkably sterling macro of the arachnid, Andrea. When I saw the title I thought it might be about a woman who had faked her husband's death in order to collect benefits.

Excellent capture, I know these are about our area... they tend not to bite by choice, they are seen crawling on peoples hands on YouTube but it's best not to handle when if found inside the home, equally people kill insects out of a phobia which is a shame, your gallery will allow people to get familiar with many different insects and take that fear away... in an odd way they even seem to have posing character for you. lol

I prefer my insects outside. Several spiders here will bite you at night. I do one continuous spray of RAID around the base of my house every five years or so, right where the soil joins the house parging. It is effective for many years as the insects turn away from the scent. The few insects I find inside I think just walk right under the back door. They will usually die from lack of food but if I find them alive I transfer them out into the yard unharmed.
