Description

Captured recently by my nephew, who lives and works in Japan. I believe he used his DSLR on this one. Postworkwise, all I did was give the image a slight rotation and manipulate the brightness and contrast. Lots of signs in English, and using high technology, the Japanese can build tall structures in their earthquake prone country. A ZOOM is definitely required to fully appreciate the details. Sayonara.

It might pass for Los Angeles, except that the traffic is driving on the other side of the street, ala the UK.

What I see is amazing is the size of the crosswalk ; which displays the priority for the pedestrian in Japan. Its similar to our "Time Square" in New York. I bet it's quite a nice site at night .

Some may be on a lunch break, some are finished working for the day, some may be shopping, whatever, they need to get to the other side.

It does bear a striking resemblance to Times Square, but a much more colourful and populated one. Excellent shot by your nephew and postwork by you, Harry!

I wanted to pay homage to your nephew, since you've posted several shots of his in your gallery. This is a good, teeming capture of a downtown block, very condensed in this shot, and very much what I picture Tokyo to look like. However he got the tilts (from outer to center)---widescreen lens maybe?---it increases the sense of cloistered "everything on top of you" crowdedness which many of us envision Tokyo to look like. (Similar to Manhattan.) The oolors are saturated in spots---perhaps your work? or yours along with his? Well it works really well for the shot, because it makes the advertising stand out and feel almost fairy-tale-ish. I appreciate you posting and postworking this (a good job, as always); it makes me want to go there. It must be a teeming city.
