Description
Again I am looking to better the visual on the flag. I have added texture but still just doesn't look quite right. Any thoughts?

Nice, I like renders from history .. only, I dont like your medieval wall .. too low texture resolution in use as you told .. I think that is easy to put and mask wall in 2D photoshop postwork with high textures (for this type scene)

The flag needs a little tighter and more even texture for the displacement map. As skyvendik said the wall does need a bit of pop. It needs either a bump map or displacement map added. Another thought would be to start out with a single distant light source (sun) and add fill lights where you think appropriate. This will take several test renders but I think you will be pleased with what you come up with. Have faith. It will come. : )

I can change the bump map on the flag and make it tighter. Just the castle walls, that will be more difficult. As to the lights, that is what I have. One distant (sun) and one shadow box pointed from the right on the piper and one light plane lower to add fill and highlights. I even used vignette to mask the sides and add depth. More ideas? Please. I am lost on the walls...
