Description


A US Destroyer battling high seas. This is the USS George M Bache, a destroyer that was launched July 7, 1942 and commissioned 4 months later. She was 376 feet 6 inches (114.7 meters) long with a crew of 329 men. She was scrapped in March 1, 1968. This destroyer had 5 main guns, 17 anti aircraft guns, 10 torpedo tubes and 6 depth charge launchers. A converted slide taken in 1966 from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Info from Wikipedia. It looks like it was one large powerful ship in its' time,but the sea look even more powerful than it was.

I like to imagine how this image would look if it were a still from a SF movie featuring special effects by George Pal, with some giant tentacled horrors reaching out from the sea and the ship engaged in battle with them, firing missiles at them as they reach for the terrified crew on the deck. Sorry, just couldn't resist... :D
